About Me
Hi, I’m Jade Debnam - a fourth year Fashion Merchandising student at Virginia Commonwealth University with a growing interest in visual merchandising, visual presentation, and the retail experience. I’m especially interested in how creativity, branding, and customer experience come together to create engaging and memorable environments for shoppers.
Through my retail experience and Fashion Merchandising coursework, I have developed an understanding of product presentation, customer behavior, inventory, and the importance of creating a cohesive brand experience. I aspire to build a career in visual merchandising where I can combine creativity, attention to detail, and retail knowledge to bring a brand’s vision to life. I am ambitious, creative, and always looking for opportunities to grow my skills and gain new experiences within the fashion industry.
Where It Started
My interest in fashion started in a way that may seem simple, but has always been meaningful to me. Growing up, fashion was something my mom and I naturally bonded over. Shopping together, talking about clothing and different retail stores, and learning about materials and textiles helped me become more curious about the fashion industry. I was also always encouraged to express myself through what I wore, which helped me realize how much I enjoy visual details and personal style. As a naturally visual person, I am drawn to the way fashion can communicate personality, mood, and creativity without saying a word.
My Career
Aritzia Visual Merchandising Inspiration
As a Fashion Merchandising student, I have discovered that there are many different career paths within the fashion industry. Through my education and retail experiences, I have become especially interested in visual merchandising because it combines creativity with the business and customer-focused side of retail.
My long-term goal is to grow within the visual merchandising field and eventually become a Director of Visual Merchandising. I am interested in developing visual concepts, maintaining brand identity across retail environments, studying trends and customer behavior, and eventually leading visual merchandising teams. I want to build a career that allows me to combine my creativity and passion for fashion with leadership, strategy, and the ability to create meaningful experiences for customers.
